How the Victorian Points Test works
Victoria uses the Victorian Points Test (VPT) to rank every Registration of Interest (ROI) for Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) nomination. Victoria invites ROIs in two ways each round: the most competitive scores across all eligible occupations, and the highest scores within each priority industry. The score combines details from your SkillSelect EOI and your Victorian ROI.
The VPT has no pass mark. Separately, you still need at least 65 points on the Australian Government's points test, including nomination points, to be invited to apply for the visa.

2026–27 priority industries
Victoria also ranks ROIs within each priority industry: Healthcare, Social assistance, Education (teachers and early childhood) and Construction (professionals and trades). Search your occupation in the calculator to see whether it's on the priority list. Being outside the list does not stop you registering interest, because all eligible occupations compete in the "most competitive" pool.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Victorian Points Test (VPT)?
The VPT is the scoring system Victoria uses to rank every Registration of Interest (ROI) for subclass 190 and 491 nomination. It weighs seven factors: age, English, years of experience in your nominated occupation, education, occupation skill level, partner's skill and annual earnings from skilled employment in Victoria. The highest-ranked ROIs are invited.
What is a good VPT score?
There is no pass mark. Victoria invites the highest-ranked ROIs in each round, both across all occupations and within each priority industry, so a good score depends on who else is in the pool. The maximum possible VPT score is 950.
Is the VPT the same as the 65-point SkillSelect test?
No. The federal points test decides whether you can be invited for a 189, 190 or 491 visa and needs at least 65 points, including nomination points. The VPT only ranks applicants for Victorian nomination. You need to meet both, and the two scores are never added together.
Do I get VPT points if I don't work in Victoria?
Earnings points apply only if you are in skilled employment in Victoria earning $80,000 or more a year. If you are offshore or earn less, that factor scores 0 and the other six factors still count.
How do partner points work in the VPT?
You receive 50 VPT points only if you claimed 10 partner-skill points in your SkillSelect EOI, your partner is included in your visa application and your partner's occupation is a current Victorian priority occupation. Otherwise partner points are 0.
What are Victoria's 2026–27 nomination fees?
From 2026–27, a Registration of Interest costs $60 ($66 including GST) and a 190 or 491 nomination application costs $180 ($198 including GST). The ROI fee is charged once per program year, and the nomination fee only if you are invited and apply. GST applies if you are in Australia when you pay.
When does the Victorian 2026–27 skilled program open?
As at 14 October 2026, Victoria had not announced an opening date. Applicants with an ROI from a previous year must submit a new ROI when the program opens.
